Contemporary societies are facing an increasing volume of information in almost all spheres of social and economic life. Individuals and organizations engage in a frenetic spiral of generating new pieces of information at increasing speed. The Information Growth And Internet Research (TIGAIR) research programme was initiated 2006 at the Information Systems and Innovation Group (ISIG) of the Department of Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to study the social and institutional implications of information growth and dissemination. An important outcome of these developments is the emergence and diffusion of new collective forms of knowledge and expertise creation and novel structural and administrative arrangements within which human interaction and communication are accommodated. We refer to this networked information environment as the digital or information habitat to indicate its far reaching significance on contemporary institutional life.
